Competition Rules

General Rules

Seven competitions are held each year with separate sections for Prints and Digital Images.

All images are marked out of 100, with scores of 85 – 100 receiving Honour award, and the highest scoring images awarded Best Print and Best Digital Images of the Competition.  Each competition will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards, and in the Handicap competition in each section.

Entries must be submitted to the Competition Stewards no later than the closing date shown on the Syllabus.

As from 2012, each member may enter a maximum of 2 prints and 2 digital images in each competition with all entries counting towards the annual Aggregate awards. Images cannot be re-entered in the same section, but the same image can be entered in both the print and digital sections, although ideally, this would be spread over different competitions so they are not seen on the same judging night.

All Digital Images and Prints must be the genuine work of the member. Prints may be commercially processed.

The club encourages the entry of recent images in our competitions:

- images should be less than 5 years old

- images that have been entered in competitions at another photography club can only be entered in a Rosanna competition within 12 months of the other club’s competition.

Digital Images

Digital image files must be in JPG format, with a maximum pixel size of 1024 x 768, and no larger than 500K.  Smaller images are accepted.  Colour space must be sRGB.  For Digital Image preparation guidelines follow this link.

 Print Images

All prints are to be mounted and not exceed 50×40 cm inclusive of the mount with a minimum image size of 500 sq cm.  Prints must have a print title, and the competitor’s number on the top left hand corner, on the back of the print. The member’s name, or other identifying data must not be visible.

NB Members are encouraged to supply a 500 K digital file of their prints in sRGB colour space and JPG format for club records, and for using on our web page. These files can be uploaded to the same site used for the digital competitions.

Handicap

The handicap competitions are designed to offer all entrants an equal opportunity to succeed. In each section, the handicap is calculated from the best 5 scores from the last 10 competitions entered. Members must enter a minimum of  3 competitions in a section within the previous 2 calendar years to maintain their handicap for that section.

End of Year Competitions

End of Year competitions are:

Digital Image:  Aggregate & Handicap    (1st, 2nd & 3rd in each competition)

Print:  Aggregate & Handicap    (1st, 2nd & 3rd in each competition)

Digital Image of the Year

Print of the Year

Members can enter up to 3 prints and 3 digital images of their choice in the Print and Digital Image of the year competitions, from the images they have previously entered in the print and digital image competitions during that year. The winners (1st, 2nd or 3rd) of the Aggregate Awards cannot also receive a Handicap Award.

As only the best 6 scores from the seven Competitions count in the final aggregate results, it is feasible to miss one competition within a section and still remain eligible for an award.
