Handicap System for Competitions

Edpi - two entries in each competition

- both count towards Aggregate & Handicap awards

Prints - up to three entries in each competition

- top 2 counts towards awards

- lowest scoring print (of 3) can be re-entered in the next competition only

NB in 2012, we will probably shift to 2 prints per comp due to the large number of entries.

 Scoring

Other clubs score out of 15, or do not use a score at all (give points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and merits).

We are the only club to score our work out of 100 points.

The judges gives a mark out of 100. This mark is used to award Print of the Night and Honour Prints (or EDPI equivalents).

To allow for variations amongst judges and to stop any one competition having too much influence on the Annual Aggregate Awards the highest mark awarded is shifted to 90.

> 92  changed to 90

91 & 92  minus 3 marks

85 – 90  minus 2 marks

80 – 84  minus 1 mark

Our Scoring System

Negative points:

This system is arbitrary and does not have the SLIGHTEST statistical justification

Positive points:

Fairly simple

Does seem to work reasonably well

Handicap System

Our handicap system was designed to give newer members an equal chance to win monthly and annual awards in competition with more established members.

It works like a golf handicap – if we all performed to our handicap we should all end up on the same score!

 Handicap Awards

The average of the two adjusted marks is used to calculate the handicap.

The average of the BEST 5 scores from the last 10 competitions entered is calculated.

Handicap = 90 – this average score

This number is added to the 2 adjusted scores to obtain the handicap scores for the night.

The average of these 2 marks is used to determine the nightly handicap awards and for the Handicap Aggregate Awards.

 Annual Aggregate and Handicap Awards

These are calculated from the best 6 scores from the possible 7 competitions

-       can miss one competition

-       the same member cannot get both an Annual Aggregate Award & an Annual Handicap Award in the same competition

 Other Significant Rules
